Lanier's second and most important novel, first published in 1973. A quest story, set in the North American wilderness 5000 years after an atomic war, in which the hero, priest, telepath and trained killer, searches for the lost powers of the ancients. A sequel, THE UNFORSAKEN HIERO, was published in 1983 and the two were then combined and published in 1984 as HIERO DESTEEN.
