The setting copy, 472 leaves, ribbon copy typed on rectos of letter-size bond, with numerous handwritten corrections by Lanier as well as copy editing and marks for the printer in an unknown hand. Lanier's second, novel, published in 1973, and his "most important," a quest tale set in a post-atomic-war wilderness in which the hero searches for a "mythical computer which might reconstruct things." (Clute and Nicholls [eds], The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction (1993), pp. 690-691) A sequel, THE UNFORSAKEN HIERO, was published in 1983 and the two were then combined and published in 1984 as HIERO DESTEEN.
