THE SEVEN STAGES OF AUTHORDOM [essay]. TYPED MANUSCRIPT (TMs). 33 leaves, ribbon copy, typed on rectos of plain letter-size paper, with light scattered copy-editing. Pp. [1]-33. Smith refers in the first paragraph to a speech delivered at a convention some five years earlier by Robert Bloch on "The Seven Stages of Fandom" and offers the present piece as a response of sorts. Bloch was Guest of Honor at Worldcon in Toronto in 1948; but it's not clear whether this was the occasion for his speech. From the rubber-stamped address of the author on the first page (lacking a zip code), we can infer that this manuscript was produced not much later than 1963 and perhaps a good deal earlier. Smith wrote about Bloch's essay in a 1963 fanzine, the second issue of INSIDE (edited by Jon White). That and this present essay may be one and the same, if one takes the penciled note at top of page one ("#2 or #3") as an editor's assignment of the piece to a particular issue. Pages yellowing, rust stains and faint indentations from old paper clip, a bit rumpled, some water staining to bottom edge of last two leaves, otherwise very good. (#104813).
