WITH THE GILT OFF. New York and London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1923. Octavo, pp. [i-vi] vii-viii 1 [2] 3-296 [297-300: ads], original brown cloth stamped in gold. First U.S. edition. Eighteen stories, including five from EAST END IDYLLS (1897) which were revised for inclusion here. The stories have a somewhat melodramatic, moralistic tone not wholly unlikely that of the book's dedicatee, Coulson Kernahan. Cloth rubbed at spine ends and corner tips, small spot of wear at lower front corner, edges of text block a bit tanned, a sound, good copy. (#116261).
