(#116724) THE BETTER TREASURE. Mary Raymond Shipman Andrews.

THE BETTER TREASURE. Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company Publishers, [1908]. Small quarto, pp. [1-6] [1]-72 [73] [74: blank], inserted frontispiece with plate by H. M. Bunker, plus vignettes on every page, original decorated gray-green cloth stamped in gold and blind. First edition. Sentimental Christmas story by a popular Alabama writer, based on the old legend that animals are allowed to speak on Christmas Eve, in honor of their closeness to Jesus when he was born in a stable. The ghost of a child also figures in the story. The marginal vignettes (different on every page) make this a very attractive example of American Edwardian book design. Smith, American Fiction, 1901-1925 A-250. Some patchy tanning to free endpapers, some foxing to preliminaries and frontispiece tissue guard, a very good copy with otherwise clean interior and bright, clean covers. (#116724).

Price: $25.00
