First edition. The title story is a short novel about a maid and her employer. "The Will of God" is a bitter allegory about pious attitudes and an ugly deformed baby. Booth was primarily notes as an author of regional (Yorkshire) fiction. Some light patchy fading to cloth, some foxing to endpapers and text block, hairline crack along inner front hinge, still a tight, good copy. Uncommon. (#117411).
