TALES FROM WONDERLAND ... Translated by Helen B. Dole. London: Walter Scott, n.d. [1891]. Octavo, pp. [i-v] vi [vii-ix] [x, misfoilated "viii"] [1] 2-287 [288: blank] [289-298: ads], original dark blue cloth, printed label affixed to spine panel, top and fore edges untrimmed. First English edition. Part of Scott's "Camelot Series," edited by Ernest Rhys. A collection of traditional, if somewhat innocuous, fairy tales translated from two popular collections by this German writer (SOMMMER-MARCHEN and ERZAHLUNGEN UND MARCHEN) that were originally published in the 1880s. An earlier issue appeared in the U.S. as SUMMER LEGENDS (New York: Thomas Y. Crowell and Co., [1888]). Dole's introduction is slightly rewritten for this edition, but the text is printed from the unaltered plates of the Crowell edition. Spine label tanned and worn, a very good copy. (#118359).
