(#130405) FROM THE BOSOM OF THE DEEP. James Edward Preston Muddock.

FROM THE BOSOM OF THE DEEP. London: Swan Sonnenschein, 1886. Octavo, pp. [iii-vii] viii [1] 2-363 [364: blank], original red cloth, front panel stamped in gold and blind, spine panel stamped in gold, white endpapers with floral pattern printed in yellow green. First edition. Long sentimental novel about a family of Liverpool ship-owners, partly set in India. Perhaps based in part on the author's experiences at sea and in India as a young man; see Sutherland, and Kemp, et al. Whether writing under his own name or "Dick Donovan," Muddock had a long and successful career turning out popular fiction strong on adventure, crime, detection, sensation, and the supernatural. Wolff 4961 (calling for a blank leaf preceding the half title leaf, here excised by the binder). Several tiny spots to rear cover, a very good copy with bright cover stamping. A scarce book. (#130405).

Price: $500.00
