HEMAKUMARI AND OTHER STORIES. Foreword by Sarojini Naidu. Bombay: Nalanda Publications, [1949]. Octavo, pp. [1-6] [1] 2-200 [note: title leaf is tipped onto stub of canceled first leaf], bound (rebound?) in plain plum cloth with portions of the original wrappers (dust jacket?) glued to front paste-down. First edition. Seventeen short stories written in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Several, including "The Mystery of the Midnight Dance," "The Haunted Pool" and "A Whiff of Scent," have supernatural elements. "Back to the Toad" makes reference to reincarnation. "Between their lack of any discernible structure and their profusion of local references in the local language, these stories are almost incomprehensible." - Robert Eldridge. Old Calcutta bookseller's stamp on title page, cloth a little bubbled, a very good copy of a scarce book. (#134883).
