Twenty lines on full sheet of letter size paper, carbon copy with several handwritten corrections of typos, dated "July 6, 1918" in different typewriter at top and signed in full by author (pale gray ink, forward slanting hand) at bottom. "Four five-line stanzas (tetrameter with a final half-line) lamenting the loss of a lover (his love was like a garden, brought to life, then to death), the voice faded and conventionalized almost to inaudibility." - Robert Eldridge.
