"THE CHIMAERA" [poem]. TYPED MANUSCRIPT SIGNED (TMsS). Sonnet (fourteen lines) on full sheet of letter size paper, carbon copy (probably) with several handwritten corrections of typos, dated "Sept. 9, 1918" in different typewriter at top and signed in full by author (pale gray ink, forward slanting hand) at bottom. "A sonnet in Smith's usual semi-Petrarchan form (two quatrains and a split sestet) lamenting the relentlessness of Time. The poem is conventional enough in theme but has touches of that cosmological horror that makes Smith distinctive." - Robert Eldridge. Sidney-Fryer, Donald. Emperor of Dreams: a Clark Ashton Smith Bibliography, p. 41. Old folding creases, a 4 mm edge tear, else fine. Provenance: Samuel Loveman papers. (#136306).
