(#145531) THE RIDDLE AND THE RING. Gordon MacLaren.
THE RIDDLE AND THE RING.

THE RIDDLE AND THE RING. New York: Street & Smith Corporation Publishers, n.d. [1926]. Large 16mo, original pictorial wrappers, side stapled. First edition. "The Adventure Library," number 48. A sensation novel serving up a casserole of leftovers from standard mystery, romance, crime and adventure motifs, baked in a setting of New York City around 1912 (the date of the story's first appearance in one of Street & Smith's periodicals). The story's plot turns finally on a variation of the long-separated-identical-twins trick, with the added thrill of unexpected juxtapositions of social classes. This seems to have been the only novel published by this writer. Dust soiling to covers, negligible chipping to spine ends, rubbing to spine edges, a very good copy of an uncommon book. The pulpy paper is browned but quite supple and in no danger of chipping. (#145531).
