THE FATES OF THE PRINCES OF DYFED. By Cenydd Morus [pseudonym]. Point Loma, California: Aryan Theosophical Press, [1914]. Large octavo, pp. [1-4] [i-v] vi-xiv [xv-xvi] [1-3] 4-365 [366: blank] [note: first leaf is a blank], illustrations by R. Machell, original pictorial dark blue cloth, front and spine panels stamped in gold, pictorial endpapers. First edition. The Welsh writer Morris lived in California for about twenty years, employed by a theosophical group there and doing most of his creative writing during this period. "He is best-remembered for the Pwyll sequence of Celtic fantasies: THE FATES OF THE PRINCES OF DYFED (1914) ... and BOOK OF THREE DRAGONS (1930), only the first two-thirds of the latter tale being so far published ... Morris's style is "bardic", but without any descents into sentimentality or bathos; his control of long prose rhythms is perhaps unmatched in twentieth-century fantasy literature." - EF (online). Tymn, Fantasy Literature, pp. 142-3. Reginald 10397. Not in Bleiler (1948; 1978). Faint old damp stain at lower edge of rear cover, a very good copy. (#151193).
