UNDINE. London: Macmillan and Co. Limited. New York: The Macmillan Company, 1897. Octavo, pp. [i-vii] viii [ix]x-xxiii [xxiv] [1-4] 5-203 , numerous illustrations by Rosie M. M. Pitman, original decorated blue cloth, t.e.g, fore and bottom edges untrimmed. First printing of this illustrated edition. A very attractive edition of this classic with fine illustrations by Rosie M. M. Pitman, a children's book illustrator who flourished from the mid-1890s into the early twentieth century. "A charming Pre-Raphaelite evocation by this delightful but minor Edwardian." - Houfe, The Dictionary of British Book Illustrators and Caricaturists 1800-1914, p. 174. Although uncredited, the translation is by Fanny E. Bunnett. Probably Morgan 1807 (but here pagination is given as xxiii, 293). Lower corner tips lightly bumped, just a bit of foxing to the preliminary leaves, frontispiece tissue guard foxed, but overall a nearly fine copy. (#152776).
