HORROR: 100 BEST BOOKS. [New York]: Carroll & Graf, [1988]. Octavo, pp. [1-2] 3-256, boards. First edition, U.S. issue. A collection of short articles on 100 horror books from DOCTOR FAUSTUS by Christopher Marlowe (circa 1592) to DARK FEASTS by Ramsey Campbell (1987). Contributors include Clive Barker, John Sladek, Thomas Tessier, Michael McDowell, Gene Wolfe, Terry Pratchett, Robert R. McCammon, Lisa Tuttle, Dan Simmons, Peter Straub, Charles de Lint, Ramsey Campbell, Edward Bryant, and many others. Many of the selected books are worthy of inclusion on a 100 best list, but overall, this is an eccentric selection. However, the book's "List of Recommended Reading," pp. 249-254, should be closely examined by readers of horror fiction. Barron (ed), Fantasy Literature 6-22. Barron (ed), Horror Literature 6-22. Burgess, Reference Guide to Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror 63. A fine copy in fine dust jacket. (#155872).
