(#162923) KALLOCAIN. Karin Boye.

KALLOCAIN. Stockholm: Albert Bonniers Förlag, [1952]. Octavo, printed wrappers. Later edition. A novel depicting a future dystopia, first published in Stockholm in 1940. Boye "started it after the outbreak of World War II -- which pervades Boyce's story -- and her traveling experiences (Boye visited the Soviet Union in 1928 and Germany in 1932, on the eve of the Nazi take over). Set in the twenty-first century, her novel is a political metaphor of her contemporary time and events. A central motif of the novel is the impact the totalitarian and militaristic state has on the individual." - Fortunati and Trousson (eds), Dictionary of Literary Utopias, pp. [336]-7. Part of the publisher's collected edition of Boye's writings. A very good copy. (#162923).
