ANY DAY NOW. Chicago: Normandie House, 1938. Octavo, pp. [1-2] [1-14] 15-134 [135: blank] [136: colophon] [137-142: blank], illustrations by Mathias Noheimer, original blue-green cloth, front and spine panels stamped in gold, top edge stained light green. First issue (printing)? A presentation copy with signed inscription by Derleth on the front free endpaper: "For Emma [Lethel] -- / affectionately, / August." The book was completed in November 1938 and there are copies with title pages dated 1938 as well as copies dated 1939 on the title page, both otherwise identical, including the first edition statement on the copyright page. A short novel, part of Derleth's Sac Prairie Saga, dedicated to Edgar Lee Masters. A slightly shorter version of this story was published in REDBOOK, May 1938. Wilson 545. Touch of fading to lower spine end, lower front corner tips lightly worn, a very good copy in good pictorial dust jacket with wear along top and bottom edges, chips from spine ends and corner tips, and several closed tears along front flap fold. "Return to / Mrs. Emma Lethel / Sauk City, Wis" is written in ink at the upper left corner of the rear panel. Copies of this book dated 1938 on the title page are uncommon. (#164350).
