First edition. The author's first book. 1500 copies printed. A revised edition (270 copies) was published by Houghton Mifflin in 1888. His second book was THE McVEYS (AN EPISODE) published in 1888 by Houghton Mifflin, also in an edition of 1500 copies. Joseph Kirkland was the son of Caroline M. Kirkland who published three novels of pioneer life, the first in 1838, the two others in the 1840s. BAL 11194. Wright (III) 3174.
