An excellent historical anthology of Australian SF with a generous sample of pre-1956 fiction, including selections from utopian and anti-utopian works of 1880s and 1890s. Includes a 32-page introduction, "The History of Australian Science Fiction" and notes by Ikin. Van George Ikin (b. 1951) is an "Australian academic, editor and author who began publishing SF stories with 'The Living Water' for Pocket Man in 1968, and published short work with some frequency for the next two decades. In 1977, he founded SCIENCE FICTION: A REVIEW OF SPECULATIVE LITERATURE, which he edited until 1997" (SFE online). Small trade paperback format. Bookstore stamp on the recto of the first leaf, several light cover creases, lower front corner and a few early leaves lightly bumped, but a very good, unread copy. An uncommon book. (#164769).
