Fresno county roads are "signed" by the California State Automobile Ass'n. Issued by the Fresno County Chamber of Commerce, Fresno, California ... [cover title]. Fresno, California: Issued by the Fresno County Chamber of Commerce, n.d. [circa 1915]. First edition. Large scale detailed map, 41.8 x 53.7 cm, printed on both sides, folded into a stiff printed paper wrapper that measures 23 x 10 cm. Map title is "Map of Fresno county showing principal automobile roads ... Route and Map Bureau California State Automobile Association 1628 Van Ness Ave, San Francisco." "H. P. H." and "1/15" printed below the map title probably identify the cartographer and the date the map was drawn. Among the map's details are the location of "rural and mountain hotels" and trails and points of interest in the central and southern High Sierra. Two paragraphs of descriptive text on the map are "The grand canyon of the San Joaquin River" and "The Alps of America." The verso of the map has text, "Ideal auto trips," describing ten trips to "places of interest," and "statistics," and three photographs, one a panorama captioned "Huntington Lake in the High Sierras." A fine copy. OCLC reports a copy of this map at Yale University. (#164877).
