40 REAL PHOTO POSTCARDS OF YOSEMITE VALLEY AND THE MARIPOSA GROVE OF BIG TREES, PROBABLY TAKEN BY TAYLOR IN 1901, THE YEAR BEFORE HE ESTABLISHED "THE THREE ARROWS STUDIO" IN OLD VILLAGE. Coronado, California: Harold A. Taylor, n.d. [Printed circa 1901-1906.]. 40 Real Photo Postcards (RPPCs), each approximately 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches. Each card has the photographer's imprint on the verso: "Harold A. Taylor, / Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado, California." "Yosemite images by Taylor are nearly nonexistent. Harold had toured the park in 1901 with the prospect of opening a studio there. I believe these unique images date from that 1901 excursion. In 1902 Eugene Hallett and Harold A. Taylor opened their "Three Arrows Studio" in Yosemite Valley. Their studio in Old Village would be purchased by Arthur Pillsbury in 1906. Their photographs, all embossed with their "Three Arrows" logo, are extremely rare. By the way, Taylor introduced the orotone process to Yosemite four years before Pillsbury" (John Carpenter). Most of the cards were removed from albums and have glue and paper remnants at corners. A few images have a bit of tarnish, but all are very good or better. This collection would be hard to duplicate today. (#166958).
