First edition. A collection of five stories with 4-page "preface" by Thompson. The first, and longest tale, "Centeola; or, the Maid of the Mounds" (pp. [13]-166) "is a short novel set in the civilization of North America's 'mound builders,' which the author identifies as being the same race as Mexico's Aztecs, and who originally lived in a land called Azatlan, which the author locates in the region of the Wisconsin River." - Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy, pp. 17-8.
