(#167280) SURE-DART: A STORY OF STRANGE HUNTERS AND STRANGER GAME IN THE DAYS OF MONSTERS. Frederick Costello.

SURE-DART: A STORY OF STRANGE HUNTERS AND STRANGER GAME IN THE DAYS OF MONSTERS. Chicago: A. C. McClurg & Co., 1909. Octavo, pp. [i-v] vi [vii] viii [ix-xi] xii [13-15] 16-320, five inserted plates with black and white illustrations by Walter J. Enright, original pictorial light blue cloth, front and spine panels stamped in orange, brown and black. First edition. Adventure story about young lads hunting dinosaurs -- an anachronism cheerfully acknowledged by the author in his preface -- in America when Colorado was the site of a huge inland sea. A glossary lists the folk names used for the various species of beasts appearing in the story. Despite its subject, this is generally classed as non-juvenile fiction, thus its presence in Smith (see below) and other bibliographies. Angenot and Khouri, "An International Bibliography of Prehistoric Fiction," SFS, VIII (March 1981), 42. Bleiler (1978), p. 50. Reginald 03469. Smith, American Fiction, 1901-1925 C-830. Christmas gift inscription on the front free endpaper. Cloth rubbed at edges, a very good copy. A scarce book. (#167280).

Price: $350.00
