(#167391) San Francisco [cover title]. California, San Francisco.

San Francisco [cover title]. [San Francisco: Published by H. S. Crocker Company (Cunningham, Curtis & Welch)], n.d. [copyright 1912]. 24x28 cm (oblong octavo), 20 leaves with mounted photographs, original tan wrappers printed in brown, photograph of the Ferry Building affixed to the front wrapper, string tied. First edition. An elaborate souvenir album with a fine selection of captioned photographs of San Francisco, rebuilt bigger and better over a period of just six years following the devastating 1906 earthquake and fire. Most of the images measure 14.5x19.5 cm (5 3/4 x 7 3/4 inches). Subjects of the photographs include Market Street west from the Palace Hotel, Banking Center - Market, Post and Montgomery Streets, Palace Hotel, Fairmont Hotel, Hotel St. Francis, scenes in Golden Gate Park, Oriental School on Clay Street, the residence district, Sutro Baths, Cliff House and Seal Rocks, panorama of San Francisco showing the rebuilt commercial district, and more. The photographer is not identified. Not in Rocq (1970), but perhaps similar to the 1915 SOUVENIR OF SAN FRANCISCO (Rocq 9009). The overlapping edges of the paper cover are torn and chipped with external and internal tape reinforcement along the top, bottom and fore edges. All the photographs and mounts are fine. OCLC reports one copy (Sanford University). (#167391).
