Promotes the "winter sports program 1932 season" and "direct rail service to snow centers!" with a list of principal winter sports events to be held at Lake Tahoe, Truckee and vicinity (Norden, Soda Springs and Cisco), Reno (Galena), Mt. Shasta, Yosemite, Placerville and Sequoia National Park, as well as the "Snowball Express," the party train that conveyed "hundreds (sometimes thousands) of tourists to Truckee so they could enjoy the annual winter carnival the town first established in 1895. Every weekend from early February into March, fun-loving visitors could spend the day sledding, ice skating, and tobogganing before Saturday night dancing and saloon-hoping in Truckee's business district" (McLaughlin). The California Chamber of Commerce began promoting skiing in the Golden State after the International Olympic Committee rejected the the state's bid for the 1932 winter games. "Despite the IOC's rejection of California to host the 1932 Winter Olympics ... a victory was secured when Lake Tahoe was voted to host the prestigious National Ski Tournament -- the first one held west of the Rockies" (McLaughlin).
