First edition. An early tourist's souvenir and guide to Niagara Falls and the surrounding region that features a summary of "celebrated places of resort, and natural curiosities on the route from New York to Niagara" by way of the Hudson River, Albany, north from Albany to Lake George, and west from Albany to Buffalo and Chautauque [i.e. Chautauqua] Lake, pp. [7]-10. The Village of Niagara Falls, the falls and "remarkable objects in the vicinity of the cataract," are described on pages 10-13. "Rail and canal routes from Albany and Troy to Buffalo and Niagara Falls" with rates and distances for travel by rail from Albany to Buffalo and from Buffalo to Niagara Falls are found on pages 13-15. The large color lithographed panorama drawn by A. Vaudricourt from a daguerreotype by F. Langheneim measures 20x73 cm (8 x 28 3/4 inches). Dow, p. 1222; 1305. Sabin 19781. Some rubbing to cloth, some splits to cloth along outer joints; inner hinges reinforced with archival tape, considerable foxing to text block, light foxing to panorama, mostly marginal, a very good copy.
