Pacific Coast album. With views of Yosemite, Big Tree grove, and various points of interest. San Francisco, Cal. C. P. Heininger, -- Publisher, n.d. [1889]. 18.5x13.5 cm, pp. [1-3] 4-22 [23: ad] [24: blank] [last leaf used as rear paste-down], 54 illustrations printed on the recto of a 20-panel single sheet, 19x274 cm, folded accordion-style into an original pictorial brown cloth portfolio, front panel elaborately stamped in black, silver and gold, seal of the state of California stamped in blind on rear panel. Heininger's descriptive text is solely devoted to the state of California, providing brief accounts of its history, natural resources, and commerce and industry, including a summary of the state's "health and pleasure resorts" (pages 18-19). Heininger's advertisement pasted to the inside rear cover reads: "C. P. Heininger, / publisher of / view albums, historical references and guides / of all the / principal points on the Pacific Coast. / Special designs of albums and business cards to order. / Manufacturers of / walking canes and fancy novelties / of / native woods and big tree bark. / San Francisco, Cal." Heininger published many of these view books for various cities and regions in California and Pacific Northwest in the 1880s and 1890s, some of which were reprinted into the early twentieth century. Title page darkened (offset from adjacent folded plate), tiny stain at upper right margin of title leaf, California auctioneer's label dated 1914 tipped onto title page; cloth rubbed at spine ends and corner tips, small stain on front cover; plates are fine.
