THE TERRACES OF NIGHT (BEING FURTHER CHRONICLES OF THE CLUB OF THE ROUND TABLE). London: Hurst & Blackett, Ltd., n.d. [1932]. Octavo, pp. [i-ii: blank] [iii-viii] xi [xii] [13-14] 15-287 [288: blank], original pebbled red cloth, spine panel stamped in gold. First edition, first printing. "A collection of supernatural tales comprising a sequel to NIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE (1926). Lawrence's early weirds cover traditional themes in an entertaining and economical fashion, being less prolix and laden with spiritualist doctrine than her mature work. Of the present selection, 'The Ikon' and 'The Dogs of Pemba' are particularly effective." - Robert Knowlton. Ashley, Who's Who in Horror and Fantasy Fiction, p. 113. Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy, p. 135 and Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy Volume II, p. 144. Wilson, Shadows in the Attic, p. 315. See Barron (ed), Horror Literature 3-123. Bleiler (1978), p. 119. Reginald 08731. Spine lean, a very good copy. According to Locke, most copies of the first printing were sold to libraries and, although this copy, bound in red cloth rather than the publisher's black cloth, has no library markings, it was probably bound for the library market. The first printing is quite scarce in any binding. (#170168).
