(#170346) THE SECRET PEOPLE by John Beynon [pseudonym]. John Beynon, John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris.

THE SECRET PEOPLE by John Beynon [pseudonym]. London: George Newnes, Limited, n.d. [1935]. Octavo, pp. [1-4] 5-256 [first leaf used as front pastedown; true endpapers at rear], original reddish brown cloth, spine panel stamped in gold, top edge plain. First edition. Issued in a bewildering variety of bindings, this appears to be one of the primary bindings (perhaps preceded by copies bound in brown cloth with gold lettering on spine panel, but no sequence has been established). The author's first book, first published in nine serialized parts in THE PASSING SHOW in 1935 under the title of "Sub-Sahara." One of the few lost race novels set in the future. In 1964 a decadent pigmy race, originally of Egyptian descent, is discovered in caverns under the Sahara. Harris is better known under his pseudonym John Wyndham. Clarke, Tale of the Future (1978), p. 67. Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy, p. 33. Bleiler (1978), p. 22. Reginald 15716. Page edges foxed, but a fine copy in nearly fine 2/6 pictorial dust jacket with light wear at the upper spine end and a touch of general dust soiling. A lovely copy of an uncommon book that is rare in jacket. (#170346).

Price: $3,500.00
