An anthology collecting the title novella and "A Cast of the Net" a novelette subtitled "the story of a detective officer," both presented anonymously. "A Cast of the Net," pages [99]-144, is a detective story set in the Port of London and on the River Thames, published as a serial in CHAMBER'S JOURNAL in December 1877. CHAMBERS'S JOURNAL (1832-1956), a Scottish weekly penny paper, was the direct inspiration for Dickens's HOUSEHOLD WORDS and ALL THE YEAR ROUND. 10x25 v-chip and short associated crease at bottom edge of rear wrapper, a very good copy.
