"She lived in Rome, where her husband was attached to the German embassy, and wrote fictionalized historical biographies ... After the First World War she published one more novel, THE EVIL VINEYARD (1923), about a young woman brought up in a narrow upper-class English household who marries an older man, goes to live with him in a haunted house in north Italy, and is torn between him and a younger lover.
