TERRORS: A COLLECTION OF UNEASY TALES. London: Philip Allan, [1933]. Octavo, pp. [1-4] 5 [6-8] 9-252 [253-256: ads], publisher's orange cloth, spine panel stamped in black. First edition. Original anthology. Part of the classic fourteen volume "Creeps" series. Collects eleven stories by Birkin (writing as "Charles Lloyd"), Francis H. Sibson, Margery Lawrence, Elliott O'Donnell, and others. Bleiler (Guide 1586) calls this anthology an "unremarkable collection." However, Sibson's nautical horror story "The 'Westerdale's' Tow" -- not summarized because it is biological SF -- is a quite effective terror tale of the sea, reminiscent of William Hope Hodgson's work in the same vein. Barron (ed), Horror Literature 3-23. Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 1586. Bleiler (1978), p. 8. Reginald 14032. A fine copy in a bright, very good 2/6 pictorial dust jacket with short closed tears and shallow chipping along flap folds and bottom edge and 20x45 mm chip from the upper spine end with loss of "O" in "TERRORS." A nice copy of one of the more elusive titles in the series. (#172084).
