AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED (ALS). 3 pages on small folded octavo sheet, dated 24 September 1929, to "Dear Mr. Harré [Thomas Everett Harré]," signed "M. P. Shiel." Shiel writes to Thomas Everett Harré about his anthology BEWARE AFTER DARK! ... 1929), a resourceful collection of twenty-one horror stories, that included Shiel's "Huguenin's Wife." Shiel apologizes for not replying earlier to a letter from Harré, but has been reading the anthology "one story each evening, as such things should be read, and I can say that I have quite enjoyed them on the whole." He thinks the book "ought to sell: I hope so. If it does, and you do another, let me tell you that I have received from a friend in Buenos Aries one of the most wonderful weird tales that I have ever read ..." In closing Shiel says "I note the good things you say of me in your excellent introduction, and that is very gracious of you. May you go strong." Offset from a clipping on the first page, partial closed tear along horizontal fold touching the "M" in Shiel's signature. A fine letter. (#172310).
