A GLORIOUS DAY'S OUTING "ZIG-ZAG" SELECT EXCURSIONS TO MT. TAMALPAIS PERSONALLY CONDUCTED BY DAWSON MAYER ... [caption title]. San Francisco: Booking Office, 364 Parrott Building, n.d. [after 9 April 1902]. Broadside, 19 x 18.8 cm. An apparently unrecorded illustrated broadside that advertises excursions up Mt. Tamalpais "personally conducted” by Dawson Mayer. The excursions, offered twice a week between May and August, accommodated up to 60 people and cost $2.50, including a luncheon at the Tavern of Tamalpais (1896-1923). "Zig-Zag" most likely refers to the "Crookedest Railroad in the World," the Mill Valley & Mt. Tamalpais Scenic Railway (1896-1930) which carried tourists from Mill Valley to the tavern. According to an editorial in the San Francisco Chronicle, 9 April 1902, reprinted here, "Few ever think of recommending a trip to the summit of Mount Tamalpais as affording on a clear day on of the finest views of sea, bay, river, mountain and valley obtainable on the continent. And yet visitors who have traveled the world over have said that the ride to and from the summit and the view on the mountain top surpass anything they ever saw or experienced here or elsewhere." Mild foxing and creasing, a good copy. Not in OCLC. (#172968).

Price: $375.00
