First edition. The committee, appointed at the "monster" public meeting of concerned citizens held in San Francisco 7 December 1895, petitioned Congress "on behalf of the people of California" to "collect from the guilty directors of the [Central Pacific and Union Pacific] roads the sums they have wrongfully taken" and that "the government mortgage be at once foreclosed, as recommended by the United States Railway Commission [in their 1887 multi-volume report], and as authorized by the Act of Congress passed March 3d, 1887." A major contribution to the literature regarding the issue of subsidy bonds in aid of construction of the transcontinental railroad. Not in Cowan (1933; 1964). Wrappers rubbed at edges and a bit dusty, short split along spine fold, crease in rear wrapper, a very good copy. (#172994).
