CRATER LAKE OREGON'S MOUNTAIN PLAYGROUND ... [panel title]. [San Francisco]: Southern Pacific, [1916]. 22.7x20.4 cm, folded to 22.7x10.2 cm, pp. 1-13 [14-16], double columns, 11 illustrations from photographs, 1 drawing (duplicated on outer panels), 2 maps, self wrappers, stapled. First edition. An attractive brochure promoting destinations in the southern Cascades reached by the Southern Pacific's "Shasta Route," with emphasis on access to Crater Lake National Park, the nation's fifth national park, set aside in 1902. In addition to describing the park and things to do there, the brochure provides a description of the seven hour 81-mile trip by auto stage from the railroad's main line at Medford, Oregon, to Crater Lake Lodge (opened 1915), and an alternate route for the return trip by way of Kirk, Klamath Falls and Weed. Mild rusting of staples, else a fine copy. (#173161).
