Rochester, N.Y. Larry Farsace, 1954-1955 [annual]. Octavo, single issue, pictorial wrappers, stapled. A presentation copy with signed inscription by Farsace to Gerry de la Ree on the inside front cover. GOLDEN ATOM was founded by Larry Farsace in 1939 and ten issues were published between October 1939 and 1943 when World War II interrupted publication. Following the war a few issues were published on an irregular basis. This issue, published in 1955, "must have been the most expensive fanzine in history; 100 printed pages and lots of art in an edition of 1000 copies at a cost of some $1500." - Warner, All Our Yesterdays, p. 64. This issue is of value for a long article by pulp editor Harold Hersey on THE THRILL BOOK, pp. 45-68, the first detailed account this legendary magazine, as well as an account of Hersey's role in the founding of Clayton's ASTOUNDING STORIES (1930) and other pulp magazines. Two mimeographed promotional sheets laid in. A fine copy. (#173181).
