SONOMA COUNTY. HER MATCHLESS RESOURCES AND SUPERIOR ADVANTAGES. A LAND OF PEACE AND PLENTY, PLEASANT IN CLIMATE AND RICH IN SOIL. OFFERING MANY INDUCEMENTS TO THE SEEKER OF HEALTH, WEALTH AND HAPPINESS [cover title]. N.p., n.d. [1894]. 23.5x16 cm (octavo), pp. [1-2] 3-27 [28-32], double columns, 9 illustrations, 1 map, publisher's pink wrappers printed in black, sewn. First edition. A very scarce pamphlet promoting the resources of Sonoma County, mainly agriculture. Describes the county's major cities and towns: Sonoma, Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, Cloverdale, Guerneville, Sebastopol, Windsor, Geyserville, Forestville, and "other places," Occidental, Fort Ross, Glen Ellen and other small settlements. The first six pages of text are devoted to a general description of the county, with emphasis on its scenic attractions -- its "wild" and its "pastoral" beauty, including the "wildness" of the Geyser region, the "picturesque" Redwood forests, and the road between Cazadero and Fort Ross on the Pacific Coast . The map of the county shows the main line and branches of the San Francisco and North Pacific Railway. The inside rear wrapper has an ad for the San Francisco and North Pacific Railway. The rear wrapper advertises land for sale in the Rancho-Cotati, a 10,000 acre subdivision between Petaluma and Santa Rosa, offering lots "from five acres upward to suit purchasers, the best land in the State for fruit, vines or general farming." The pamphlet was probably sponsored or issued by the SF&NPRR. Rocq 14852 (CLU; CU-B). Not in Cowan (1933; 1964). Not in the Norris Catalogue. Old vertical mailing fold, wrappers a bit sunned, tiny chip from lower left edge of front cover, a very good copy. OCLC reports 3 copies University of California, Berkley, California State Library, and University of California, Los Angeles. (#174133).
