TEN MINUTE STORIES. New York: E. P. Dutton and Company Publishers, [1914]. Octavo, pp. [i-vi] vii-viii 1-271 [272: printer's imprint], publisher's decorated olive-green cloth, front panel stamped in gold and blind, spine panel stamped in gold. First edition, U.S. issue. 3056 copies printed, of which 2016 were bound for the British market and 1040 were bound for the U.S. market with E. P. Dutton imprint. According to Ashley, the British edition was published in February 1914 and the U.S. edition was published in August 1914. This copy of the U.S. issue bears the statement "FIRST EDITION ... February 1914 / Reprinted ...... February 1914" on the copyright page, as per Ashley. This conflicting statement appears in all copies of the U.S. issue we have seen and, although we cannot be definitive, we believe this is the correct U.S. issue of the first printing. Collects twenty-nine stories. Ashley, Who's Who in Horror and Fantasy Fiction, pp. 36-7. Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 185. Bleiler, Science-Fiction: The Early Years 213. Tymn (ed), Horror Literature 3-39. Bleiler (1978), p. 25. Reginald 01409. Ashley A.11.2. Gold lettering on front and spine panel largely perished, scattered foxing, mostly page edges, a very good copy. A scarce issue of a very uncommon book. (#175038).
