JOIN THE CLUB THERE'S MONEY IN EARLY ORANGES WHEN GROWN AT EL MIRADOR[,] ORANGE COVE[,] LINDSAY, TULARE CO., CAL. ... [cover title]. San Francisco, Cal. C. M. Wooster Company, General Agents, n.d. [1905]. 23.2x20.2 cm, folded to 23.2x10.1, pp. [1-8] (not paginated), double columns, six illustrations, three column map, printed in red and black, self wrappers, stapled. A promotional brochure for the El Mirador Land Co.'s 4000-acre subdivision in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada west of Lindsay, California. The three column map, "El Mirador Orange Tract Subdivision of the Lewis Creek Ranch[,] Lindsay, Tulare County, California," shows the lots for sale and improvements (several irrigating wells) and sales (apparently none at the time of issue). Orange trees were first planted in Tulare County in the 1860s, and the citrus industry grew significantly in the 1880s. The arrival of the railroad in 1888 allowed fruit to be shipped to eastern markets. Citrus attracted investors and led to the growth of towns like Orange Cove and Porterville. Tulare County's citrus production once ranked fifth in the state. Today the region's water supply is managed by the Lindsay-Strathmore Irrigation District (LSID), formed in 1914. Front panel lightly chipped along top and bottom edges, several closed tears along outer panel folds, a good copy. No copies of this issue recorded by OCLC; a similar brochure is located at the California State Library. (#177181).
