CALIFORNIA'S GOLDEN CHAIN STATE HIGHWAY 49 THE MOTHER LODE HIGHWAY [cover title]. N.p., n.d. [Circa 1960.]. Single sheet, 55x43 cm, printed on both sides, folded to 22x9.5 cm, illustrations, 1 map. A promotional with information for visitors for the eight California counties traversed by SR 49: Calaveras, Amador, El Dorado, Placer, Nevada, Sierra, Tuolumne and Mariposa. The verso is a large picture map, "Highway Map of the Mother Lode," with cartography and illustrations by William Wintle. The map covers the region from Yosemite National Park to north of Lake Tahoe. The map is surrounded by a border of small drawings illustrating the gold mining history of the region. This printing does not have a lithographers union symbol at the lower left of the map. There is an earlier version of this map designed by Fred Witta, Jr. and created in collaboration with the Golden Chain Council of the Mother Lode around 1951. Rumsey 8128 (variant). A fine copy.
