[Circa [1907-1914]. 25.5x31 cm (oblong octavo), 24 leaves, 30 illustrations, one folded (including cover illustration), publisher's overlapping tan wrappers printed in brown with illustration pasted to the front cover, string tied. First edition. The printer's imprint, "PUBLISHED EXCLUSIVELY / FOR / BROWN NEW COMPANY / BY /THE ALBERTYPE CO. / BROOKLYN, N. Y.," is printed on the inside front cover. Twenty-nine captioned photographic illustrations, most measuring approximately 15x 20 cm (6 x 7 7/8 inches) tipped onto twenty-four leaves. An additional photograph is affixed to the front cover. The rails of the Shasta Route, completed in 1887 by the Southern Pacific Company, ran from the San Francisco Bay Area to Ashland, Oregon (later Portland, Oregon), through northern California's Sacramento watershed and over the Siskiyou Mountains. The Shasta Route passes through some of the most beautiful mountain scenery of any train in North America. A very good copy. (#178887).
