VALMOND THE CRANK. THE FORBIDDEN BOOK. By "Nero" [pseudonym]. New York: Twentieth Century Publishing Co., [1891]. Octavo, pp. [1-3] 4-212 [213-254: ads] [255-256: blank] [note: last leaf is a blank], original green cloth, front and rear panels stamped in blind, spine panel stamped in gold and blind, decorated endpapers with floral pattern printed in light green. Edition unknown, perhaps a reprint. Copyright by The Original Publishing Company of Albany, New York. Wright lists DLC copy with this imprint. The American Catalogue lists two editions, both paperbound, one published by Twentieth Century Publishing Co. as their "Twentieth Century Library," number 35 @ 35¢ and the other published by H. J. Smith as their "Silver Series," number 3 @ 25¢. Some volumes of the "Twentieth Century Library" were issued in paper and in cloth, this is one of the latter. Frenzied melodrama of death and destruction caused by an anarchist who, "like thousands of infidel reformers who have gone before ... have destroyed but builded nothing." Wright (III) 5864. Inner hinges cracked, front free endpaper chipped and detached, still a sound, very good copy. An uncommon book. (#20807).

Price: $125.00
